If you oversimplify it and take your total cost to close the deal / monthly savings = # of months to Break Even.

Because obviously there was no skill or courage involved, and houses will definately be cheaper in 20 years. 

I have given this renter Dave Ramsey's book The Total Money Make-over but I doubt they have read it because they have never mentioned it.
