If someone is doing roof work he shouldnt be just casually throwing nails and shingles on the ground without a tarp or some sort.

I have heard of filling or covering the pits with pieces of roofing shingles as well as fine sand.

As another stated the outside of shingle siding can have asbestos so dont break it open and breathe it.
