I list on AirBnB and VRBO, although 90% of my traffic comes from AirBnB.I’ve been running a STR for 3 years now (Carlsbad, California) and it does great.

The traffic count there is extremely high, made up of 90% vacationers, but there are no competing hotels nearby, just a handful of small cabins and bed and breakfasts.  

That way, when you run ads on google, you get the traffic straight to your website (without competitor recommendations!).

“Traffic” people are bad people, but why not use that to an advantage?

You will also have horrible traffic, poor infrastructure, little to no sidewalks.

But till then it's more of a steady 3% per year and light traffic area.  

Less traffic, pollution, people, etc.  

Houston might be an ugly, traffic congested city without an exciting past so it won't get a lot of hype, but it is the most diverse city , easy to work with regulations and is not going to stop growing in any direction. 

Location - Factors such as crime, area amenities, schools, access to transit, etc. define the location.Wants - For example, to attract our target tenant pool the property almost always needs to have tile or LVP floorings for high traffic areas.

You have easy access to beaches, mountains (skiing and hiking), awesome restaurants (Portland was named 2018 Restaurant City of the Year by Bon Appetit in 2018), a fantastic craft beer scene, far less traffic than found in some of the other states and also affordable!
