@Zachary Peacock - I think you'll be in for a real rude awakening if you expect property in the Portland area to triple in value in 5-7 years.I've driven through that area exactly twice and both times I found myself asking "this is it?"

To me, that shows some character, because I've seen many cases of people starting that plan and not making the payments, and the plan gets voided.

As far as houses over 100 years old, a lot of people appreciate the older houses; they are much better built and have more character and more to work with for a major remodel.

@Roy Oliphant  I like Birmingham because the topography is rolling hills which leads to some character in the housing stock and the street layouts..
