lets look at renting and refinancing options 

I own a house now as primarily residence, we are a family of four so that option didn’t cross my mind. 

There are meetups, meetings, and extra resources that might be helpful.

It's easy to obtain, costs very little, and doesn't require extra, on-going effort to maintain. 

If you plan to use a third option, look there as well. 

You were bothered that they didn't sufficiently thank you for the extra efforts.

I too am looking at Detroit as an OOS option and would love to see your neighborhood info.
