Could I use rental income from the multi-unit, and future rental income from my SFH to lower my DTI?

My ultimate goal with getting into real estate investing is that Erin and I are building toward more freedom, and the wealth required to live the life we want to live now and into our future (including retirement).

To log my thoughts:Multi-Family clearly seems the way to go.5+ buildings sound like they need to be more self-sustaining, so that seems like the way to go.

I have a separate portfolio of stocks which are all highly aggressive, but my timeline for those is decades in the future. 

Looks almost identical.I think the below is a foreshadow of future.

I'm planning on stocking up on appliances and vinyl plank flooring this weekend for property I own and possibly future ones, just storing the stuff until I need it.

I have heard from podcasts, investors, and read in the forums that direct mail is the best medium, however I am just curious about what the future holds. 

Who really knows the future?

Only, I want to make sure that the infrastructure is in place to be able to handle that kind of volume.I actually do work with some high net worth W-2 earners, surgeons, MD's and such so I see the potential of the future to make some moves but the question is "how" do I get there.
