Old house (80-100 years), mostly renovated recently with big items new (furnace, roof, wiring, plumbing, bathroom fixtures, kitchen counters/sink, all flooring), even new stairs . . . with decent replacement windows throughout and either original decently refinished hardwoods or tile (wet spaces) or laminate in a couple rooms.

The solution was to dig a trench all along the perimeter of the basement and install drain tiles to catch the water and send it to the basin.
