You are going to eat some costs and spend more than you budgeted for.

In Wisconsin, a service animal is not considered a pet and is protected as a reasonable accommodation for a person with a disability...these are trained and certified animals and completely separate from the nearly unregulated "emotional support" animals.

Just to be on the safe side and protect yourself, I would provide the notice of non-renewal.

But we bought at a price point where the mortgage was well within our ability to qualify for a SFH.That way, if we hated being landlords, we would end up with a house whose mortgage was in line with what we would spend anyways on housing. 

Make your case and make it clear to them what you feel is a fair resolution.Your landlord sounds like a novice that is way too over protective of the property.

Your paperwork must be thorough and protect you. 

I do not work right now and spend about 12 hours a day, 7 days per week, on learning about real estate investing with a current dream of being able to walk again someday, work,  and to contribute to my family again.I do not know why this happened but I will continue on. 

But I would spend some time and effort on marketing to find deals and not worry about w-2 because there is no way you are going to get an FHA loan anyway.

The difference is, there are a lot fewer protections in CRE vs residential, so the laws about dual-agency and fiduciary responsibility are probably out-the-window.
