Meaning if someone has wall paneling in the basement and I can’t actually see the concrete, block, stone or whatever is behind it, I’m not required to move anything to look and can’t necessarily see any potential issues. 

Make sure the time you spend on your RE pays additional dividends in dollars, prevents you from having to fix something again or saves massive money.   

It is also easy for me to use, if needed, rather than something more concrete.

It is a Massive house and we are starting drywall in 2 days (Tuesday Feb 26) The house has about 3500 Sq ft of finishes space, and a 2000 sq ft deck, 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, 2 car garage, walk about basement, 2 fire places, and sits on top of a hill that allows you to see for about 10 or 12 miles to the hills on the horizon facing the sunset... 

A few bags of concrete and a pressure treated board for a form.

That sounds like a beautiful mansion or massive money pit to me.

Or is it a pier and beam foundation with concrete/brick/stone footings (piers) and wood (beam) sitting on top of that?
