Honestly anyone that falls for it did not do a good job at researching and just "pushed it in". 

The seller keeps that $5k no matter what, and it's not credited back at the time of sale.

We'll see how it goes.

About 2 years ago I decided to become a licensed real estate agent in Michigan and have had a fairly successful first couple years doing that full/part time.  

However, if you qualify for Real Estate Professional Status (REPS) or do STR, you may offset W2 income with rental losses.

So there is a paper trail of me using it as my residence.
