Possibly so they can set up a grow op or they may have some other mark on their past that they do not want their landlord to dig too deeply into.My opinion is landlords that operate business this way, as opposed to the standard, are simply lazy landlords believing life will be better for some reason.

OP there are discount brokerages in each state that will charge you a nominal fee a month and a small transaction fee... here in on west coast there are literally hundreds of them.Dingo up in Ohio is starting list and sell realty and is I think 199 a month.. no transaction fee's.

I am not a tax professional and the RE in question is commercial real estate so certainly not my realm of expertise at all, but if OP has residential mortgages in their future (personal residence, etc) this would look highly unusual.
