But I find it ludicrous the people on this forum who remote manage 700 miles away and are angry at a town for having the nerve to zone and legislate about their STRs.

There HAS to be someone interested in this property as it has a backyard semi-private lake (fishing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boating and swimming year round) and is in an unzoned area for expansions, businesses etc.  24 hour shopping within 5 miles. 

And it's weird that your story pretty much mirrors mine... except I have a sister instead of a brother.I too inherited a property about 100 miles away from my house in San Diego.
