@Brian Gibbons didn't hit the nail on the head...he used a nail gun and put so many nails in it, that he practically wrote a small novel on the topic. 

But, you don't lose 24% of your tax-sheltered retirement capital to taxes on the front-end.Tons of info here on BP on the topic.
