There are some exceptions as to when you can get away with a single stair (full explanation below) but you'll see it is not easy to do.I actually used to live in/rent a third story attic space with a single stair, and as a tenant I thought it was fine.

A handy search bar in the upper right makes it easy to find previous discussions, blogs, podcasts, and other resources.

They don't go easy on you for having a smaller payout or hit you harder for a larger one.  

Easy answer - hire out the work to be done.

Sometimes you just can't have a gas connection or stove.

I have been told that mice can still come from the other homes connected to mine, via bitting through the firewall, and make entry again. 

@David PereiraBuying a property with all cash can bring a lot of perks, like more money in your pocket, no need to pay interest, a better chance to win in bids, easy process, and peace of mind.

The good thing about these issues is they are relatively easy to fix.
