wow, the post @Scott Mac shared looks sooo much more worth the money than this.

They can get it repaired at their expense or I would simply remove the device.

I just signed a lease on a SFH that includes $30/month for each device to rent (not rent to own).

@Oren Pfeffermann, my personal view on washers and dryers in rentals is as utilitarian devices so I buy basic model used appliances often from a used appliance store.
