Yeah the customer facing fees + what they charge the owner combo is a bit excessive.  

When I called the banks, customer service from both banks told me they automatically enroll people into forbearance right now, even if you just call to ask questions about the program.Please look at your credit reports and make sure there aren’t notes on your loans from forbearance that you didn’t ask for.

Ask the loan officer if they can present your argument to underwriting and if underwriting won't budge give a reason why they believe you won't be living in one unit.

I've heard them multiple times on the GRE podcast and it seems like they have a decent product, but the customer service is seriously lacking.  

In my opinion if you are doing a quality job and taking care of your customers there should not be any reason to have such a clause because they wouldn't want to leave.
