Ask about the commission split structure, desk fees, buying and selling for yourself/family, is phone duty required, are there monthly minimums (sales, cold calls, etc), bonus structure, the type of real estate they focus on (investment, retail, high-end, leasing, foreclosures, commercial), how is the in-house training, what kind of on-boarding process, lead disbursement and generation, advertising associated with your franchise, corporate franchise fees, web & social media, and a ton of other items.

I am also adding some "options" to a couple of my plans, like an inlaw suite underneath one, and a media/bonus room in the walk in attic of another, which gives me a couple more plans, sort of :-)For me, I live on the coast, so the lots I am buying need to have a certain "coastal" design, when I decide to build further inland they will be a completely different type of home.

Sure, there are trends, history, and new developments that can lend to predictions on what areas may appreciate best, but I would rather count hard numbers (income, expenses, vacancies, management, maintenance, debt service, etc) and take appreciation as a bonus.
