I am considering purchasing a SFH with an ADU in the backyard, with the plan of living in the SFH and renting the ADU. 

Out of these areas, Franklinton and Linden are seeing some of the most developments, with things like the ONE Linden plan in Linden, which is a 50M plan to improve the neighborhood.

- thanks and  assuming you are  planning to reside in the home and you dont have a FHA loan on any other property - you should be able to use a FHA loan. 

I am looking at a house close to my primary residence for around 1.8M; I plan to rent it out for the first year while I obtain permits and plans to build a larger house.

Currently, I am planning to move and also rent the main house.

I really like the western suburbs like Cicero &  Berwyn.So are planning to moving into the property since you are using an FHA loan?

This property is in a great area for me in North Arlington (great schools, stones throw away from a huge community park, and close to I30), and the plan is to live in it for a year or so before renting it out (I’m sure I’ll be picking your brains when the time comes!). 

my next steps I'm planning are a duplex/quadplex build on land I'm buying from family with an existing single family home already on it.
