{Fun fact: we actually tried STR by the rooms and we cash flowed like crazy...but we didn't realize that we needed a permit and so we had to stop it} We did alot of pre-qualification work to make sure the prospective tenants are trustworthy...but you are never sure 100% anyways.

As long as you own that property the capital gain taxs you deferred in the 1031 will stay deferred.And there will actually be the opportunity to start to eliminate some of the deferred tax once you have lived in it for at least two years and have owned it for at least five years.
