The status is listed as "inactive" which according to sources can mean:1) The loan had been paid off ( I highly doubt that but ok maybe, I still need a recorded reconveyance.)2) The loan was sold to someone outside of the MERS system (ok if this is true, I haven't seen any other assignments of mortgage)I can't find the servicer to make payments to.

Although most, if not all, tenant issues may be handled without a social security number, one situation where it is required is when using a collection agency to collect on a judgement.Regarding your concern about re-verifying background checks with existing tenants, I do not believe this is commonplace.

I think it is very important to look beyond the hard data in screening tenants and also look at the soft data - such as, how they act in-person, their tendencies, social media, if their car is clean and things such as that.
