Motel room  meals out.. etc etc.I know when I go from PDX to the south be it atlanta or whatever it cost me 1500 to 2000 per trip.. of course I buy a first class ticket so my air fare is a little, but I get a free checked bag :)  Its one months rent in most markets to visit your property but if you have multiple properties then things get cheaper  but still a cost

.- PITI: Mortgage: $541, PMI: $123, Taxes: $92, Insurance (worst of 3 quotes): $54- Future re-fi costs ~$1500 (conservative) when staying with the same broker- Had an investor friend walk through with me and gave me some good advice on when to replace windows- Central heat, but no central air conditioning.

My guy just did one & it turned into a 5 day nightmare.If it's a ranch or an easy 2 story I would definitely retrofit it with a forced air Hi Eff + central air.

The same front load compartment washes and then drains and semi hot air is blown in to dry the clothes.

Even with just clean-up related costs for a little bit of water it would probably run a few thousand with air movers, dehumidifiers, pumping out (if needed cost), and mildewcides

.******* I am not a doctor or lawyer or advising anyone to go start eating popcorn ceilings or huffing asbestos******What casey states is correct, however if you are going to DIY spend money on the best respirator mask you can find at home depot, and if you are going to remove the carpets, and you want to scrape the popcorn ceilings, use a hose to soak the ceiling to make it come down easy and  to lower the dust particles in the air.
