oil heat

Hey everyone,

So I am close to putting in an offer on a house near me here in NJ, if all goes well this will be my first flip.  All in all the house appears to be in pretty good shape, it needs a new bathroom and kitchen as well as some freshening up (new windows, painting, floor refinishing, etc.).

One question is what to do with the furnace.  It has a reasonably new oil boiler (~10 years old) with an oil tank in the basement next to the boiler that appears to be around the same age as the boiler.  There also is gas piped to the house for the hot water heater and the kitchen stove.  The question is should I retrofit/replace the oil boiler for gas and remove the tank or leave things as they are?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Kris

@Kris Rasmussen

Hi Eff gas boilers are expensive & they generally don't like the old rads/piping/sludge & old diameter pipes, etc etc. My guy just did one & it turned into a 5 day nightmare.

If it's a ranch or an easy 2 story I would definitely retrofit it with a forced air Hi Eff + central air. We find the resale value justifies it esp with central a/c.

Yesterday we installed a complete Hi Eff forced air system & 2 ton c/a $1675 + $700 labor/parts for a 2 story (plus with some new venting).

good luck...
