I work in the Marietta area and we do a lot of deals in the Cobb County and surrounding areas. 

Look up the owners info in the county tax records (free access online in Texas) and contact them.

Not sure if you've found anyone but I have been in real estate since 2004 and specialize in Davis county which is where Layton is.

I went with him to his lawyers office who helped him with the bankruptcy and he said that my neighbor has until the sheriffs sale to sell the home or move out, implying to me that he could still sell the home.We tried finding out who serviced the loan and who owned the loan through our county records department and even they said that the chain of custody of the loan was unclear and unfinished, likely due to the fact that the title company, servicer, and mortgage company that owned the loan all went bankrupt within the last 10 years.

They're currently defendants in 2 class action lawsuits here in Hamilton County (disclosure:  I'm a plaintiff in one of them and they are suing me in an unrelated matter).Unfortunately, it's highly likely that you were set up for failure from the beginning. 

I plan to attend a tax sale in Mississippi soon and the local county assessor told me that I need a letter of credit and a blank check to register for the sale. 

I'm somewhat local to you, in Livingston county. 

Seems to me the city/county doing the auction should have disclosed this as well.
