I would pair it with a tile floor, though, not wood ... if wood floors, then I would use white or grey as I find different wood tones clash, and the same wood tone for floor and cabinet is too much IMO.

If the tenants use of your water is driving you crazy why don't you consider installing seperate water meters or using RUBS (is that what they call that water metering company ?).
