I would say what really helped me get a base foundation on REI is listening to the BP podcast DAILY, read "rich dad poor dad" and buy, rehab, rent, refinance and repeat by David Greene and definitely attending one of the newbie webinars Brandon hosts.

I read rich dad poor dad and although I got a lot out of the book it is more inspirational then technical, looking to learn more technical information about negotiating, making leases, hiring property management/contractors, financing etc.

In hindsight, we could have made a lot of folks rich letting them know when the stock market would tank because it seemed directly correlated to when we needed to pull out money from stock accounts for a purchase.
