It takes 1610 Yen on bus (roughly $16) to get from my home to my job and back, but every day I take my bike (which many business people use) on a stroll to the bus station about 2 miles away.

If you can't get anywhere, then you can foreclose, but then you are in the borrower's shoes, taking it subject to, and you'll probably need to take what you can get.
