"Sliding" can also be taken care of with some rubberish linears - something you can get for a few bucks at Wally World and can install with a pair of scissors in <15 minutes.

Depending on your location, you may be able to put the system on a clock timer to limit the operation (you will need to monitor the interior temps to make sure you meet codes in the worst weather), you may also benefit from a PAIR of thermostatic controls (the exact name escapes me right now) that are pre-set for the on or off temp, and are NOT adjustable.
