The cons of this are that many residential neighborhoods don't allow for rentals, so if we tried these areas and decided it wasn't for us, we would then sell as a traditional home as opposed to a renting it as long term rental or vacation home.I also realize I could rent for a period of time and evaluate but again, then I'm paying someone else's mortgage that could ultimately working towards my own.

I used to spend my summers in high school and college working construction for my father's remodeling company, so i guess you can say being a handy man is in my blood.We really interested in investing our money in real estate as opposed to the stock market because our wealth SHOULD be dependent on our passion and abilities over the economy.

If it is a trade you seek as opposed to a g/c or handy man, reach out to local custom homebuilders, the guys doing a few houses a year,  in general they like to promote the people who do good jobs for them.

I'm still hoping some stucco contractors will be on this BP thread who can tell me if it's possible to completely remove the existing stucco (as opposed to trying to repair it) then applying a new coat that has proper lathe behind it.

There's not a lot of Alberta specific MF meetups because:Market size is smallMost investors think of condos/houses as opposed to multifamily (hence, less interested investors)Debt-financing is hard to come (relative to the US)Institutions are not as investor/landlord friendly (relative to the US)Lots of Canadians invest south of the border for all of the above reasons plus better returns/liquidity/currency diversification.
