I do like the STR route but so far it has definitely been more hands on than I would like while transitioning from Long Term Rentals.

How can I make this a smooth transition for the tenants and myself? 

Additionally, I would advise patience in this market; we have transitioned out of a sellers' market and December is the best month for deals or value
