Flipping and wholesaling for most are just jobs taxed as ordinary income but worse.

Also if you bring a contractor to a few of these properties and they don't get the job, they will most likely stop coming. 

Having engaged in reading about rental properties, I proposed to my brothers that we each save $1,000/month from our jobs and invest in two multi-family homes in a year, and save the cash flow from those homes to buy more homes in the coming years.My older brother's preference is to take over his client's buildings.

Don't get me wrong, I love my day job, but I know that the job market can get rough and lead to layoffs.

Bakersfield is somewhere that is growing with new jobs, new development, and new infrastructure.  

I also used that time to ask specific questions on how to do things so I can learn from them in case I want to do it myself.I was quoted around 13k for the job.

I think you will appreciate more of the job a manager does by dealing with it even on a small scale, light lifting multi- like this.
