I am flipping a property in my LLC that I have decided I want to live in.

I'm interested in turnkey properties in the future as well to build my portfolio as the cost of some of those cities you mention is significantly lower than our coastal areas.To get to your point it sounds like you need to decide how involved you want to be. 

If you get familiar with how to run rental property numbers, i.e. cash flow numbers, you can decide if a property is a good investment just based on that.

If you decide to sell the home look for an apartment deal that instantly provides positive cash flow. 

We have decided not to buy here because it is too expensive to buy-in AND rent control has been floated around city meetings.

We decided to rent our home out until we could figure out what to do next. 2 years later we are now starting to get into real estate investing and we are trying to find a way to be able to tap into the equity that has built up in our home in order to get our investments moving, but we are running into issues with this since the home is now a rental property and not our primary residence.

I'm not completely familiar with any of those areas but if you do decide that is the area for you, I would make sure a get some solid, reliable contacts with boots on the ground there, and that's not easy to do

They decided that they needed to move closer to family as one of them started to have health problems.
