And from more than one insurer.Start by contacting the title insurers you see in those distribution schedules to see what they have offered to the sheriff, and to see what they are able to offer you as a potential lender in a sheriff sale acquisition.Because you will be seeking the title insurance policy before the sheriff has ordered the title insurance, you might be faced with a bunch of exceptions when you get the title commitment - that could be a challenge.

Be aware that in order to obtain the umbrella policy they will likely require you to up the limits on your auto policy before giving you the policy.

As a newbie landlord I made a couple of mistakes, one of which was babysitting my tenants and a year and a half later, I had, had enough of the inherited tenants.I more than bent over backwards and it only ended up hurting me as they pushed back on every policy with the “we didn’t do that before”….. uuhhhmmmm new management, new lease.Once you get into the habit of jumping every time tenants come complaining, you will quickly come to hate being a landlord.Somethings, can easily be mitigated by you asking that they resolve it among themselves and/or get the authorities involved.There are issues where legitimately you should get involved, noise and he said/she said is not one of them.Cheers!

It's definitely possible to do, and the key is good people on the ground that you can count on (and a good insurance policy).That said,  I agree with @Kevin Boyd that you shouldn't consider this if the payments are going to put that much stress on your finances.
