Are you specifically looking to join a real estate team (like as a buyer's agent, etc.) where you can start working their leads on day 1, or are you just looking to join a firm as an individual agent where you can hang your license? 

The inventory is low not because people are hanging Onto homes but because of the amount of people moving here., in my opinion.
