Just like with any service provider, you need to do your due diligence and find a reputable loan officer who offers good rates.

I wouldn't go with a deposit taking organization (i.e. a bank) as nowadays they are doing a minority of the loan originations.So, I look at it as a matter of service, but the mortgage company but really the loan officer. 

Michigan is my home market, our head office is in Detroit.

I have a regular day job as a tax CPA at an accounting firm, so even though we are 100% remote right now, there is a chance I have to stay near Manhattan so that I can commute to the office 2-3x a week.

Have you considered other commercial property, such as office, retail, or industrial space?
