I doubt many people in chittenden county are able to homestead and chop they're own wood, but these are very common in most other areas.

Agreed plus it makes a difference if its a block construction ( new build almost certainly is) and wood. 

The stain it is more obvious than it might otherwise be because, as @Mike Reynolds has also pointed out, in wood flooring installations you usually try to run the wood to and away from the light source, which didn't happen here.Almost all of this stain is going to sand out.

We rehabbed the larger unit completely, replaced wood windows on the smaller unit with vinyl.

We added a new metal roof since the carport showed signs of past leaking, new vinyl plank everywhere, new paint, gutted the kitchen, added new appliances and new cabinets, added beadboard panelling to the kitchen and one bedroom to cover up some old wallpaper, new baseboards, replaced all wood windows with vinyl, new carport ceiling, new wheelchair ramp.
