It seems pretty obvious that his model works well for him, but at least for me, the main takeaway is that this is just one model. 

Neither of us like asking for money (kind of a pride thing I guess) but that is the main thing missing from our business plan at this point.

My main question is: Can I only charge them for a repair or a replacement countertop?

I would think the two main things to worry about would be building inspector and the inspections when you get ready to sell.
