And since the military consists of families and all types of races and religions, etc., I don't see how you could be viewed as discriminating against any of the protected classes, by saying you only rent to members of the military.  

Suggest before you get on a moral high horse, CALCULATE the cost for both sides of the decision.

Obviously the tenant doesn't have the money to pay rent, so why keep beating that horse to death?  

I guess my question is this, can you decline an applicant based on a feeling as long as it's not based on race, religion, age, etc.

When I searched your link, it specifically states:"However, the landlord cannot base the difference in rent on the tenant's race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability or family status.

But, if it just so happens that all the applicants who are obese in your tenant pool happen to also have large families, or are all of a certain race or source of income or whatever IS a protected class - then you will need to justify it to fair housing if there's a complaint.

Of course, you are never allowed to discriminate on race, creed, etc.

Well the rat race left me a couple of months ago and I decided that I ain't gonna bring it  back.  

You can evict a handicapped person, a person of different religion, race, color...whatever  if they don't pay the rent.
