And since the military consists of families and all types of races and religions, etc., I don't see how you could be viewed as discriminating against any of the protected classes, by saying you only rent to members of the military.

But, if it just so happens that all the applicants who are obese in your tenant pool happen to also have large families, or are all of a certain race or source of income or whatever IS a protected class - then you will need to justify it to fair housing if there's a complaint.
