I used to use an 800# for all my ads - then I got tired of paying for it :)I did a test for myself and found it really doesn't matter - the call volume didn't go down at all when I swithced to a regular number.When I started doing homes out of the local area / different states I thought about it again but never got around to it - and I get plenty of calls.I think cell phones have really changed that world - long distance is really something only us old timers think about :)

So now that I've designed an ad that I run on Craigslist daily, I'm moving onto direct mail.

For me it was to get them to leave their info so I can get them on the phone as I can do a better job at qualifying then the VM.As far as calling people back who don't' leave a message - I still do it sometimes if the volume of calls is low - but I don't do it all the time and I feel a bit slimy when I do - but that is just me.

We have a local company that gathers up daily leads for Maricopa County only.

They have been lighting it daily, and we could repair it but its old.

Volume discounts come into play too.What I would do is look for service vans around town - specifically ones that are stopped for lunch, or working on another job.
