Although I must admit that I have several years experience in being a licensed GC, and am also an architectural designer who always creates his own drawings and presents them for construction permit approval  at a cost to me of about $150.00 whereas it might cost you a few thousand dollars on top of contractor costs.

On the other hand having a draw schedule and fund control with inspections before disbursements could be good if you're new to this as it could keep your contractors in line and it will force you to collect all the necessary paperwork in terms of Certificates of Insurance and W9's.
