this is very common in many markets.. when I was in Detroit for instance funding purchases for my vendors most had water liens on them from the previous tennats up to 8k per property in some instances and the properties were being sold for 6k and the bank had to bring in 2k to get the darn things out of their name. its also common in cities that have MF and one meter .. 

I did not speak with a lawyer but I did talk about it extensively with my insurance agent.

Family has first 12 then an extension to 24 months to refinance/sell/ or the lender sells.Lender is not going to speak with you.Sounds like her family seems not to care (or if there are heirs they may have no control of her).

I’m okay doing that but 6 months is just too long and she is literally threatening and billing me into a 6month extension because she asked.
