This might sound incredibly simple, but its something everyone can do and you suddenly you start building a routine.

Any ideas what would suddenly cause this?

As a single person I suddenly found myself caring about the 5 person family next door washing his car every weekend.   

I'm not an epidemiologist, so I'm going to pass on trying to answer #1 (though it seems a lot of people are suddenly experts in this field);-  In terms of the impact on the broader economy, both global and domestic, there are a number of things that could happen.  

Comically bad amateur investors will always look at this behemoth loss and brush it off as "a silly investment mistake", when in reality, they just cost themselves their chance at becoming wealthy for the REST of their life.Keep in mind that this recession was spawned in one of the most dangerous ways: lots of industries that employed tens of millions suddenly stopped in a matter of 2 weeks.

And from the tone, it sounds like, if you found that out, even if he was a model land lord, you'd suddenly feel slighted and instantly become a tenant where one wonders what you were taught about operating in a "man's world"  My point, don't assume.  

@Pope Lake Lending constricts during downturns so why would you think that you will be able to get a loan if properties were to all of a sudden drop in value? 

The South Bay isn’t going to suddenly become in less demand in the near or long term.

I don't want a leave to come up and all of a sudden I have to move.. to me moving is tramatic I have a lot of stuff .LOL.not to mention I have 4 times and going on 5 times now in the last 40 years of owning my personal resi's have sold and made the 500k TAX FREE there is nothing better than that.. at least 2 million in my pocket over the years completely  tax free by just owning homes in the bay area and Portland Oregon.. and on top of that for me my mortgages at some times were higher than rent and at other times like right now quite a bit less than rent.. like 50%..
