And even if you go back into real estate, the bonus is that you get to start over with a new cost basis.

PM's can be very generous with employees benefits that you pay for.  

You could then "wrap" the original loan with a new loan for the difference, sell it, and pocket the difference on monthly cash flow from the note rather than the property.Or, as mentioned, if it is possible to separate the lots after purchase and sell them off individually, then that could be a gold mine, but I wouldn't bet on it going in ... just an upside bonus if you can pull that off.The above is my understanding of how such a thing might work, but Jay is the man with the plan on these type deals, so if he doesn't pick up on this thread, I'd find him on BP and reach out direct.

See if they can stay with family and forgive rent for the days they can't occupy the unit or if they don't have the option of family, if you want to be generous and caring, pay for a hotel room for a week or two.

Okay, can you at least get her to agree that this home is where you are planting your roots, and you won't be upgrading (or adding a new wing) when you get out of debt, or if/when someone gets a big promotion or bonus? 

A huge bonus is cash flow protection during an eviction, my housing authority pays through the lockout during an eviction.

Bonus points for husband contractor.

One thing I've learned from the BP podcast is to strategize for cash flow and any equity appreciation is a bonus.
