What type of loan would be suitable for a buy and hold property?

I'd let them know that although the bathroom finishes were older they were still in suitable condition for use and if it hadn't been damaged you probably would only have painted when they moved.

The building is resort style and has great building management.  

The pros or cons really depend on your own personal style.
