Even on our shared housing rentals that are being flipped over to passive investors, I almost always include top-of-the-line ceiling fans with remotes, upgraded faucets & shower sets, self-closing toilet lids & upgraded nickel or bronze hardware.

You can program it remotely with as many codes as you like, you can lock/unlock the door remotely if needed and there's a battery indicator that you can check online which notifies you if the battery runs low (I've yet to see my battery level go down, though, and I've had the keypad for about 6 months now).

What are your thoughts about investing in remote areas of the country.

An example is buy a modern thermostat using smart phone to control them remotely without the redundant wiring. 

I think this will be needed since it is a tough location (remote) and will require the right buyer.

Three separate lots are only worth what the market will bear for an individual lot, and some others may have better features (better view, deeper water, etc.) than ours.
