My dad told me that's why canopy beds were popular in Victorian times.You could consider covering the ceiling with ceiling tin or ceiling wood plank.... thin, lightweight and looks great!

My understanding is Victorian homes originally had very bright colors on the exterior, e.g., lots of purples, greens, reds, etc.

Dorchester is a bit different as it was previously a very wealthy area so has some gorgeous older Victorian homes in certain neighborhoods that are always valuable and some neighborhoods (thinking of Pope's Hill and such) that have never really been that bad anyway.

I miss the ocean and mountains dearly, but there is an amazing energy and so many more events and fun neighbourhoods here - not to mention the beautiful Victorian houses and crazy-tall condo buildings :) I considered purchasing property in the US as the entry points are so much more accessible, but have no idea to start and read general advice to start in my backyard.

We bought a lot a few months ago and ended up selling it off but it would have been a great lot for multifamily because it was on a great street but a very busy one close to the Short North and Victorian village area.
