The thermostat is located in one unit, who is instructed to leave the heat set at one temperature.

Thermostats,  many of the baseboard heaters have the thermostats on them and you will find the tenants won't use them so hooking up a thermostat on the wall helps.

But as a property owner/landlord I can see the issue with ROI of the equipment and monthly monitoring.That said, I think the more you can use your security system to provide tenants more "home automation" features (i.e. controlling lights, thermostats, locks, etc.) from their smart phones, I think that is where you may be able to recognize some returns, especially in "A" and "B" class neighborhoods.Just my 2 cents.Lee

You therefore need to be on alert for the "thermostat at 90 with the window's open" in January behaviour;7) Social dynamics become harder to ignore when you rent by the room as you are the common link/cause for the individuals sharing a house.

HVAC guy said it would be cheaper/easier to just install another furnace and A/C to cover the lower level which was a little colder and no Proper A/C ductwork.The result is one heat/cool system,  a heat system and a cooling system. 3 thermostats total.

The same day my property manager arrived to show the property to a potential renter (difficult to rent in January) to find the house “quite cold”.When she went to check the heat the thermostat had been ripped from the wall.
