I've found the all wood chinese cabs to be the sweet spot: cheap as the home center stuff but no particle board at all to rot out.

Factor in higher CapEx/repair costs but I like how well built older homes were compared to the particle board they build today.

I like the idea of going with off the shelf cabinets at Lowe's or Home Depot but worry a good realtor would sniff them out as being a low end upgrade since they're mainly particle board.

These cabinets become damage after a water leak occurs and the tenant doesn't say anything until months after the leak.The Fix:I spray flex seal (rubber in a spray can) inside every cabinet with a water line inside; this will protect particle board "wood" base from negligent tenants.

Or the cabinets in the kitchen look newer, but it seems that the end pieces of the cabinets were not put up (you could see particle board at the end of some sections).
