This is the whole reason why we are house-hacking, to live-in and remodel.The only reason we'd keep the tenants is to set-off mortgage costs until we can transition and are prepared to Airbnb or remodel.The status question came up when someone posted something about how hard it is to evict someone who is deported.

You have to live or have the intention to live in the place for a year as your primary residence so using it solely as an investment property as a start isn't allowed but you can transition it to a rental once you PCS or move after a year
