If I add one k to it then it’s 100k back to my 401k in three years to avoid taxes  

@Michael K Gallagher This is what I was thinking too but I am also using some emotion here (family members home) and want to be as objective as possible.

To reiterate the points made by @Steve Mcmahel, depending on your employer plan, you may be able to roll either a portion or all of your 401(k) into a self-directed IRA.

@Ty Doke I know there isn't time to do so for this particular situation, but going forward and for the sake of knowledge, read Andy Tanner's "401(k)aos"...after the read, you will be far better educated as an investor and will know all you need to ever know about mutual funds.Best of Luck!

I agree with @Michael K Gallagher numbers are easier to make work in some regions than others.

A 300k buy in some areas you will look in will carry 10+k in taxes.
