When they decided to unplug the freezer, it would appear that they may not have taken the proper precautions to minimize dampness, which seems to put some of the responsibility on them.I'm also not super sure what if any responsibility should be ascribed to the repairman.

@Gail W.You should have a conversation with your CPA before you take any kind of action, including moving back into the rental.Right now it would appear you meet the exception to non-qualified use if you sell before June 1, 2019.
